Ann Hazzard, Ph.D., ABPP

Ann1.JPGI have been providing evaluation and therapy services to children, adolescents and adults for over 25 years. I believe mutual trust and open communication are essential “first steps” in a therapeutic relationship.  I bring an empathic and flexible attitude, knowledge about current treatment research, and respect for diversity and individual integrity to my work.

 Services Offered

  • Adult therapy for issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and relationship problems
  • Therapy for children and adolescents, along with parent consultation
  • Psychological testing for children and adolescents if there are questions about possible developmental problems, learning problems, attention span problems, or emotional/behavioral concerns.
  • Expertise with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, depression, anxiety, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Expertise in working with children and adults going through a family divorce, including provision of custody evaluations, expert testimony, or psychotherapy services.

Biography

  • Dr. Hazzard obtained her undergraduate degree in psychology at Emory and her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from UCLA.  She returned to Georgia in 1981 and has been licensed as a psychologist here since 1982.
  • Since 1982 Dr. Hazzard has worked part-time at Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics.  Her major role is to direct the Psychological Assessment Clinic at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding.  She has been active in teaching and supervision of psychology graduate students and pediatric residents in addition to presenting numerous workshops for professionals at national and local meetings.
  • Dr. Hazzard has also been awarded several clinical research grants, has published over 25 papers in professional journals, and recently served on a grant review panel for the National Institutes of Health.  Her research interests are diverse and have included family processes, attitudes toward individuals with disabilities, bereavement, treatment of trauma, prevention of child abuse, psychosocial aspects of pediatric disorders, divorce and custody, childhood literacy, and autism screening.
  • Dr. Hazzard has served in several leadership roles within the Georgia Psychological Association and in 2007 was awarded GPA President's Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions.  Dr. Hazzard has also been active as a Board Member in several local nonprofit agencies in Atlanta which provide support services to families in high-stress situations.

Hours available

Dr. Hazzard works on a part time basis with Emory University School of Medicine and is available at Peachtree Psychological Associates on Tuesdays, every other Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons.

Fees and Insurance

  • Dr. Hazzard is an Aetna and  Blue Cross/Blue Shield preferred provider (PPO) on most plans (but not on the BC/BS HMO panel).  For therapy patients with these plans, we file insurance and expect payment of deductibles and co-pays at the time of service.
  • Cash or checks are accepted, but not credit card payments.  For forensic evaluations or patients not covered by the above insurance plans, payment is generally expected at the time of service unless otherwise arranged prior to an appointment.
  • Dr. Hazzard provides a superbill at the time of service which can be attached to an insurance claim form if clients would like to seek insurance reimbursement.  Insurance companies vary and we encourage you to contact your company in advance to clarify if Dr. Hazzard is on the panel for your company and other details concerning your behavioral health benefits.  Some companies do provide partial reimbursement for services provided by a licensed clinical psychologist even if that psychologist is not on their preferred provider panel.
  • Please contact Dr. Hazzard's administrative assistant, Melissa Garwick, at 404-352-4348-101 to obtain information about her fee schedule.
